AP: Soldiers' deployments to go back to 1 year

This is way overdue. The Army is the only service with this long a deployment Marines, Navy and AirForce all have shorter rotations. Last I heard Secretary of Def Gates also mentioned increasing the size of the armed forces which is also long overdue.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Bush administration plans to announce next week that U.S. soldiers' combat tours will be reduced from 15 months to 12 months in Iraq and Afghanistan beginning later this summer, The Associated Press has learned. (more here)

I am certainly no authority but I would think this would not apply to those currently in Iraq but rather to future deployments. I suppose there might be a few units currently there that might be affected by the change but I wouldn't bet on it. I neglected to add that the Air Force is thinking of extending it's deploymnts to 6months. At least that is the last I heard.

Also, my apologies for the delay in responding and posting your comment. As you know I moderate the comments on this blog. This means that I must review and approve them before they are posted. I do this to keep the spam and inapproriate remarks off the blog. My intent is not to stifle discussion but rather to keep things on task. The result is there is sometime a delay since I do have a family to take care of.
I gather that you may have a friend and/or family member overseas. I have "been there, done that" as I do Army support as a member of a combat weather team. My prayers are with you and those serving.
