There seems to me no question that the Batman film "The Dark Knight," currently breaking every box office record in history, is at some level a paean of praise to the fortitude and moral courage that has been shown by George W. Bush in this time of terror and war. Like W, Batman is vilified and despised for confronting terrorists in the only terms they understand. Like W, Batman sometimes has to push the boundaries of civil rights to deal with an emergency, certain that he will re-establish those boundaries when the emergency is past.
And like W, Batman understands that there is no moral equivalence between a free society -- in which people sometimes make the wrong choices -- and a criminal sect bent on destruction. The former must be cherished even in its moments of folly; the latter must be hounded to the gates of Hell. (more)

Behind the scenes of 'Prince Caspian'

When a cherished book becomes a movie, the book fans usually cringe. Yet, three years ago, "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" burst onto the screen, satisfying even the most ardent fan of C.S. Lewis' literary classic.
The man most responsible for keeping the integrity of the initial book was producer and stepson to Lewis, Douglas Gresham. Now the next book, "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian," comes to the screen this month. Thus, the question in the minds of Lewis fans is, "Can they give us a film that's faithful to the book again?" (rest of the story)

I've only seen one of these ("Ratatouille") (unless "The Ten Commandments" happens to be the old one.) I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has.
In the latest addition to a six-year study that might stun Hollywood, the results from 2007 show that Americans preferred – sometimes by a huge margin – movies that are conservative, patriotic and pro-American containing traditional, biblical values over anti-capitalist, socialist, atheist or perverse sexual themes...
...The money-making movies with traditional content included "Ratatouille," "Live Free or Die Hard," "Spider-Man 3," "National Treasure: The Book of Secrets," "Alvin and the Chipmunks," "I Am Legend," "Amazing Grace," "The Astronaut Farmer," "Enchanted," "The Ten Commandments," "In the Shadow of the Moon," "Pride," "The Ultimate Gift" and others....
...MOVIEGUIDE bases its assessments on the standard that the basic moral principles in both the New Testament and the Hebrew scriptures are the same, "though individual Bible-believing Jews and Christians, or individual churches, synagogues and denominations, may differ greatly."... (full story)

Once- A Movie Review

It’s an engaging story with some unexpected twists, but what I really appreciate is the moral undercurrent to the film. It stresses not only real unconditional love (not mere romantic infatuation), but also the tensions between courage and responsibility, desire and commitment. The essential choice faced by each of these characters is well summed up by the Academy Award nominated song “Falling Slowly,” which frames their relationship (again, you can listen to it here):
