Peacenik Thugs

Michelle Malkin reports:

From Pittsburgh to Berkeley, anti-war extremists have smeared recruiters as "death pimps" and "child predators." The militant Code Pink group continues to organize in-your-face protests to drive recruiters from major metropolitan areas.
The Times Square bombing wasn't an isolated incident, but a symptom of reckless tolerance for dangerous "peace" peddlers skating on the edge of sedition. Lone nuts? Here's a brief history of the anti-military recruitment movement's mounting acts of vandalism and violence:

A Prophet in Scotland...

".."We neglect the gay movement at our peril.
"I want to ask you if you are able to see the giant conspiracy that's taking place before our eyes?"
He said: "It's a very small group of people, but very active and organised, and extremely indulgent. The opposition know exactly what they're doing. We don't."..

What's new: Presidential race may be altered by rising support for Iraq policy

The danger of playing politics in war is that on some level someone is invested in defeat.

Form the USA Today Blog
The Politico -- Rising support for Iraq policy could alter dynamics of the presidential race: "American public support for the military effort in Iraq has reached a high point unseen since the summer of 2006, a development that promises to reshape the political landscape. According to late February polling conducted by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, 53% of Americans -- a slim majority -- now believe 'the U.S. will ultimately succeed in achieving its goals' in Iraq.

A Rose By Any Other Name

NPR quotes a Pentagon Report here. I'm just curious why we would care what the name a group of terrorists go by and not just focus on the fact that they are terrorists..

Pentagon Report Fails to Link Saddam, Al-Qaida
A Pentagon report concludes Saddam Hussein's regime carried out terrorist operations and provided sanctuary and aid to terrorist groups. But confiscated Iraqi documents show no direct link between the former Iraqi dictator and al-Qaida.

The Pentagon vs. Petraeus

The rest of the story behind Fallon's retirement...
From the WSJ

"Yesterday's resignation of Admiral William Fallon as Centcom Commander is being portrayed as a dispute over Iran. Our own sense is that the admiral has made more than enough dissenting statements about Iraq, Iran and other things to warrant his dismissal as much as early retirement. But his departure will be especially good news if it means that President Bush is beginning to pay attention to the internal Pentagon dispute over Iraq.
A fateful debate is now taking place at the Pentagon that will determine the pace of U.S. military withdrawals for what remains of President Bush's term..."

Fallon didn't get it

The Los Angeles Times offers another view than the prevailing "Fallon as prophet/martyr" line of the MSM
The departing head of Central Command was wrong about the surge.
By Max Boot March 12, 2008
To see why Tuesday's "retirement" of Navy Adm. William "Fox" Fallon as head of U.S. Central Command is good news, all you have to do is look at the Esquire profile that brought about his downfall. Its author, Thomas P.M. Barnett, a former professor at the Naval War College, presents a fawning portrait of the admiral -- a service he previously performed for Donald Rumsfeld. But evidence of Fallon's supposed "strategic brilliance" is notably lacking. For example, Barnett notes Fallon's attempt to banish the phrase "the Long War" (created by his predecessor) because it "signaled a long haul that Fallon simply finds unacceptable," without offering any hint of how Fallon intends to defeat our enemies overnight. The ideas Fallon proposes -- "He wants troop levels in Iraq down now, and he wants the Afghan National Army running the show throughout most of Afghanistan by the end of this year" -- would most likely result in security setbacks that would lengthen, not shorten, the struggle...

An Inordinate Fear of Terrorism?

From the Wall Street Journal
In 1977, Jimmy Carter told Americans to get over their "inordinate fear of communism." This year, expect to be told to get over your "inordinate fear" of terrorism.
Among politicians, the case is still being made sotto voce. When Barack Obama lists the "common threats of the 21st century" as "nuclear weapons and terrorism, climate change and poverty, genocide and disease," the suggestion is that Islamist terrorism is one of many problems, and not, as John McCain insists, the "transcendent issue of our time."

Who Can Be Saved?

by Avery Cardinal DullesFebruary 2008 -->
From First Things
"Nothing is more striking in the New Testament than the confidence with which it proclaims the saving power of belief in Christ. Almost every page confronts us with a decision of eternal consequence: Will we follow Christ or the rulers of this world? The gospel is, according to Paul, “the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith” (Rom. 1:16). The apostles and their associates are convinced that in Jesus they have encountered the Lord of Life and that he has brought them into the way that leads to everlasting blessedness. By personal faith in him and by baptism in his name, Christians have passed from darkness to light, from error to truth, and from sin to holiness. " full article here

Take Him Away

From the Touchstone Blog March 10
So said the crowds that bullied Pontius Pilate into surrendering to their judgment a man he knew was innocent. Not that Pilate required much persuading. But I wonder now, suppose we do just what the crowds were crying for. Suppose we take Jesus away? What does the world look like, if we take him away?

Sinbad Refutes Clinton Foreign Policy Cred

"One of the few episodes Hillary Clinton's campaign has cited as evidence of her superior ability to serve as commander-in-chief was a trip she took to Bosnia in 1996. The trip included Sheryl Crow, a Clinton supporter, and comedian Sinbad. In an interview today with the Washington Post's Mary Ann Akers, Sinbad says that the trip was hardly the harrowing experience Clinton has made it out to..."

From Meddling to Preaching

Good stuff as usual from Touchstone

You go from preaching to meddling when, for example, you assert that the Natural Family has a “quiverful” of children; that it requires a permanent, unbreakable bond between the husband and wife; or that it is marked by what are called “sex roles.” This is too much nature, it is nature untempered by technology and culture, as if you were asking people to go naked in the winter or hunt and kill their own food and eat it raw. full article here

Bugging our Enemies

Clifford D. May at the National Review says American spies need to be free to eavesdrop on foreign terrorists. I agree

Six years after the terrorist atrocities of 9/11, 15 years after the first attack on the World Trade Center in New York City, 25 years after the bombing of the U.S. Marines barracks in Beirut, and nearly 30 years after the Iranian Revolution — “Death to America!” was its rallying cry — we still can’t agree on what to call those waging war against us. Are they militant Islamists, Islamic fascists, terrorists, extremists, or something else entirely?

Liberal Fascism

Excellent review over at FrontPage.
Liberal Fascism:The Secret History of the American Left from Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning
By Jonah GoldbergDoubleday, $27.95, 487 pp.Review by David Forsmark

That "thwack" you hear from coast to coast is conservative book-writing pundits smacking themselves on the forehead and exclaiming, "Why didn't I think of that?"
The reason is National Review editor Jonah Goldberg's new book, Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left from Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning, as it racks up huge sales and dominates best-seller lists.

Solar Activity Diminishes; Researchers Predict Another Ice Age

Dr. Kenneth Tapping is worried about the sun. Solar activity comes in regular cycles, but the latest one is refusing to start. Sunspots have all but vanished, and activity is suspiciously quiet. The last time this happened was 400 years ago -- and it signaled a solar event known as a "Maunder Minimum," along with the start of what we now call the "Little Ice Age."

I'm not gonna get any more upset about this on than I did global warming, we'll have to adapt one way or the other and we will. Still, this may be based on better data anyway...
But wait, maybe we can just pump more carbon into the air and warm things up... if that worked...:-)

Global Warming- I Told You So

Clarice Feldman at the American Thinker: I don't know how much life is left in the global warming/aka climate change hoax, but this should -- if widely known -- help nail the first part of the coffin lid down on it: ...All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA's GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously....

Planned Parenthood: Wanting fewer blacks 'understandable'

The founder of PP has a long history of this type of thing so this is not surprising...just disgusting.

Russia threatens to use force over Kosovo

UNITED NATIONS -- The international split over Kosovo grew more ominous Friday as Russia raised the spectre of using force to back its Serb ally's bid to retain the territory.
Russia's envoy to NATO warned both the Western military alliance, which has a 16,000-strong peacekeeping force in Kosovo, and the European Union against formally backing the ethnic-Albanian leadership's declaration of independence from Serbia.

Forget global warming: Welcome to the new Ice Age

As a weather forecaster I always get a chuckle with articles like these. We can't forecast beyond five days and yet we are POSITIVE we are in a warming trend and even more positive we are responsible. It occurs to me there is a certain amount of hubris to go with our false faith in computer models.
From the National Post:
"Snow cover over North America and much of Siberia, Mongolia and China is greater than at any time since 1966.
The U.S. National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) reported that many American cities and towns suffered record cold temperatures in January and early February. According to the NCDC, the average temperature in January "was -0.3 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average."

The Obama Enigma

Where would he lead America? I have my thoughts on that and it includes a hand-basket, but here are some others from the Washinton Post..

"THE NATIONAL Journal magazine recently ranked Barack Obama as the most liberal senator in 2007 -- an assessment that is subject to legitimate quibbling but will no doubt be featured by Republicans if Mr. Obama wins the Democratic nomination for president. Democratic voters in a Pew Research Center poll last month put Mr. Obama to their left ideologically, Hillary Rodham Clinton to their right. Are these analyses accurate? When the Illinois Democrat talks about bringing together red and blue America, does he mean that he will persuade the red (Republican) part to come around to blue (Democratic) policies -- or does he mean that he will forge a new, centrist answer that will bridge the red-blue divide? Is he a liberal at heart who tacks occasionally to the center or more of a centrist capable of suppressing leftist instincts when political circumstances demand?" (entire article here)

GOP to Conservatives: Drop Dead

I think this is why Huckabee stays in; to give conservatives a voice. McCain is a better Republican than Huckabee, but Huckabee is the true conservative. Without Huck, conservatives have no voice.

From Townhall:
As with small children, many of the entrenched, beholden, or power-hungry hierarchy of the Republican party, simply wish conservatives could be seen, but never heard.
In a very telling headline, The Washington Times recently reported, “McCain Refuses to Pander.” In the first paragraph of the article, the paper said, “John McCain's campaign manager yesterday said the candidate will not pander for conservative support…” Yeah, we know. Message received.

Kosovo: Islamism's New Beachhead?

My prediction? There will be no peace in the Balkans with an independent Kosovo. An independent Kosovo will be a springboard to increased Islamist violence throughout the region and beyond. I have never been more sure of something in my life.
From FrontPage Mag
"The current state of affairs is a product of a concerted, single-minded, bipartisan American effort to turn Serbs into an enemy as the U.S. tries to make friends of its enemies in the region, always at Serbian expense. “Will Russia now become the leader of the Europeans who resist the Islamization of their continent?” Thomas Landen asks in the Brussels Journal. He notes that Moscow has called on the UN to annul independence, and a UN vote may be the only thing to save us from a new world war over this Balkan province, ignored by the media and public for eight years as insignificant, despite the Balkans’ history for setting off world wars."

The West’s Fatal Mistake: We Are All Serbs Now

"Surely, Mr Bush knows that al-Qa’eda fighters were involved in driving the Serbs from Kosovo in the late 1990s. The Jerusalem Post reported in 1998 that the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) was “provided with financial and military support from Islamic countries,” and had been “bolstered by hundreds of Iranian fighters or mujahedin [some of whom] were trained in Osama bin Laden’s terrorist camps in Afghanistan. ...

...Yesterday, thousands of ethnic Albanians were celebrating their independence in the Kosovar capital Pristina, shouting “KLA! KLA!” and waving American flags alongside the Albanian and the new Kosovar national flag. Is America now in league with al-Qa’eda and the Albanian mafia? What is the point of fighting Islamism in Iraq while at the same time one creates a free haven for Islamists on the European continent?..." entire story

Blowback from global warming fear-mongers

From AT
One of the serious real problems being created out of worries over the phony problem of supposedly man-made global warming is the rush to replace incandescent light bulbs (the kind Thomas Edison invented) with CFL bulbs, which contain mercury. AT has been warning of this since early April last year. But it now appears that even greenies are catching on that they may have unleashed a Frankenstein's monster with the ban on incandescents that will take effect in 2012.

So we'll be cooler but we'll have a mercury problem. Gee, thanks. (full story here)

Universal Islamic 'Blasphemy' Law ?

The Islamo fascists are winning:
From the American Thinker

Almost two weeks ago, "three men with a Muslim background" were arrested by Danish police on anti-terrorism charges, suspected of having plotted to murder Kurt Westergaard, a cartoonist for Jyllands-Posten....
And within 3 days, by February 15, 2008, confirming the pervasive fear of violent Muslim reprisal that apparently grips Danish society, Westergaard was ejected from his police-protected hotel room having been deemed, "too much of a security risk." Now the 73-year-old cartoonist and his wife are homeless. (full article here)
